Domestic Woods include Oak, Cherry,
Maple and
Walnut. Imported/Exotic
woods include
Zebrawood, Purpleheart, Paduk, Honduras Rosewood, Cocobolo,
and Wenge.
Availability
of imported/exotic woods is
dependent upon suppliers and some species are very difficult
to get. Exotic/Imported
also woods tend to be quite a
bit more expensive than domestic wood.Burls and spalted woods are also
difficult to find and
keep in stock. These
woods are often as
expensive, or more expensive, than some of the imported/exotic
woods. They
can also be fragile, and, therefore, are
often only used as inserts in a dual/combination wood case. Additionally,
because of the extra glue-up and
sanding/planing steps, dual/combination wood cases involve
more labor to
produce.
Any order that involves imported/exotic
woods, burls, or
spalted woods require advance communication via email or phone
so that
availability of wood selections and prices can be confirmed.
Finally – every piece of wood is
unique. No
two are alike. Similar
pieces to the pictures below can often
be found, but there is no guarantee that the final version of
a wooden case
will be a perfect match to the wood examples you see.
